![]() ![]() Cereal, bread, toast, yoghurt, pastries plus cooked breakfast so plenty to choose from. We had breakfast included and this was a choice of a wide range of food. All staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful and we also ate here which was nice. Rooms were cleaned daily and we had great service from Gilly in particular who came to help us when the coffee machine wouldn't work, very pleasant and helpful. Clean and tidy, the tv was very small for the size of the room with limited channels but we weren't there to watch TV so didn't matter to us. Our room was basic but plenty of room around the twin beds and between the window and beds. There is a bus stop right outside with buses going regularly in all directions. The front is on a main street and our room looked out here but we didn't find the traffic disturbed us. There's a road that leads directly down to Great Western beach at the side of the hotel. ![]() Great location as the back of it is a garden and dining area which is on the cliff right between two beaches. The hotel maintains a strong sense of Cornish identity and l would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone thinking of holidaying in Newquay. Every single staff member that we encountered was friendly, polite and helpful. Even with all these good things there is one thing that is the jewel in the Great Western's crown, it's staff. During our stay we enjoyed live music from excellent local band, The Stowes and a fun quiz. With seating both indoors and out, it is the perfect place to relax whilst watching the surfing on the beach below. It has an extensive menu, which changes through the day. The hotel's bar-restaurant appears to be popular with holidaymakers and locals alike. Breakfast was delicious with a plentiful continental selection and an imaginative hot food menu. A nice touch was the Cornish Stoneware crockery which was also used throughout the hotel. (See photograph) A generous hospitality tray was provided with coffee machine in addition to the standard contents. The room was clean and comfortable with plenty of storage space and the most amazing view over Great Western beach. We had a reasonably priced twin room with costal view. The hotel is well situated, overlooking the beach and just a couple of minutes walk from Newquay Railway Station. I enjoyed my stay at the Great Western very much. Hotel is right on the beach and has good transport links with a bus stop right outside and train station very close by.… We also enjoyed several meals on a night time in the restaurant which were good quality and tasty. So much choice and really good quality food. They made the stay so much more pleasurable. The staff in both the hotel and the restaurant were all so kind and friendly and looked like they genuinely enjoyed their jobs. Positives : Great tea and coffee facilities in rooms which are re-stocked daily including Nespresso machine. Music is played until 11pm in the bar so hard to sleep before then. Walls are paper thin and you can hear the conversations of the people in the next room. This room still had its faults but was better. After speaking to reception (very helpful girl named Beth) we were immediately upgraded to a much larger room with a sea view for no extra charge. Our room was unclean and situated looking right on to the main road which was a shame as I was taking my mum away for the week during a break from cancer treatment. Negatives : Very old, tired and shabby building in need of a good lick of paint, a good clean and some money spending on it.
